Collection: David Steeden "The Holdsworth House"

David Steeden's “The Holdsworth House” stands as the overall winner in the over-18s category, a testament to his skilful fusion of watercolour and ink. This 350 x 230mm creation presents the historic manor through an interpretative lens, where ink outlines capture the essence of the house with precision, and watercolour washes breathe life and movement into the scene.

Steeden's 'en plein air' method, preferring the spontaneity of on-site painting, allows him to chronicle the 'here and now' with an immediacy that studio work cannot replicate. The result is a lively yet intimate snapshot of Holdsworth House, inviting viewers to step into the warmth of this timeless venue. His technique offers a fresh perspective that harmonises the grandeur of the past with the vibrancy of the present, encapsulating the house not just as a structure but as a living, breathing entity.

Our Gentleman Cat

Eric is the resident cat at Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

Adopted as a stray, he has become a firm favourite with our guests. He's always on hand to welcome new arrivals and has been known to photobomb wedding shots!

He can generally be found in the hotel reception welcoming guests.

The fantastic "Gentleman Cat' illustration was created by illustrator Jo Bird and inspired by the BBC/HBO TV costume drama Gentleman Jack that was filmed nearby.
